Narayan Hari Palkar, alias Nana Palkar was a dedicated whole life Pracharak of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Service to the people/community was his mission in life and to the end he was committed to this ideal. A gifted writer and a poet, he had great compassion for the sick and the needy. All his life he strove to alleviate pain and suffering ( and worked selflessly and tirelessly to help the sick and needy ).
After his untimely demise in March 1967, the Nana Palkar Smruti Samiti was established in 1968, to perpetuate his memory and to fulfill his mission. The Samiti is a Non-Government Organization and Rugna Seva= Ishwar Seva is its motto. Today, the Samiti, in its own ten-Storeyed premises, provides a “Home away from home” to ( poor and ailing ) patients who came to Mumbai from various parts of our country for medical treatment. Many times, this is a bewildering &/a traumatic experience for them as most of them are poor and are visiting Mumbai for the first time. They do not have friends or relatives to guide. However, the Samiti helps them overcome many hurdles by providing low-cost accommodation close to the major hospitals , by assisting them hospital admission, by providing orientation about hospital and medical procedures.
